Frequently Asked Questions
Do you make the jerky yourselves?
No, and we say so plainly. Jerky Hut NY is a family-run reseller and curator out of Albany, New York. We carry Settlers Jerky Company and Whiskey Hill Smokehouse (the Jerky Hut label and the Trophy Series exotics), because after years of tasting at shows these are the bags we would buy ourselves. Our job is finding the best jerky in the country and bringing it to you.
Where can I buy in person?
At events. We set up at county fairs, motorcycle rallies, sportsman shows, boat shows, rodeos and balloon festivals across the Northeast, including the Dutchess County Fair in Rhinebeck and Americade in Lake George. There is no storefront; the Albany address is a residence and a shipping point. See the Where To Find Us page for the schedule.
How big is a bag?
Settlers Jerky Company bags (beef, bacon, chicken, ahi tuna) are 7 oz. Jerky Hut bags are 8 oz, except the Carolina Reaper Extremely Hot at 7 oz. The Whiskey Hill Trophy Series exotics (gator, bison, elk, venison, wild boar, kangaroo, duck) are 3 oz vacuum-packed bags. Every bag is $25.
Why are the exotics smaller for the same price?
Because gator tail and kangaroo cost a great deal more per pound than beef, and because a 3 oz vacuum pack is the right size for trying something you have never eaten. The 7 and 8 oz beef bags are where the value sits: $3.13 to $3.57 an ounce, when most national brands run $5 to $9.
Is the jerky gluten-free?
The Whiskey Hill Trophy Series exotics are all labeled gluten-free with no fillers. The Settlers bags list wheat and soy (from the soy sauce) on the label, and so does the Cowgirl. The Jerky Hut Carolina Reaper Extremely Hot says gluten-free on the bag. If a product page does not show the gluten-free badge, the label does not claim it or we have not confirmed it.
Do you list ingredients and nutrition facts?
Only where the label or the maker publishes them. Most product pages now carry the ingredient list read straight off the bag. Where we could not read one, we show a clearly marked placeholder rather than guess. We never publish calorie or sodium figures we cannot verify.
How much is shipping?
$7.99 for the first bag and $2 for each additional bag, by USPS. Free on orders of $100 or more. See Shipping & Returns for the hot-weather note.
How hot is "XXX Hot"?
Our 1–5 heat meter runs Mild, Peppered, Medium, Hot and XXX Hot. The top tier is the Chernobyl ghost pepper and the Carolina Reaper bags. The Reaper is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the hottest pepper. The owner's own description says "insanely hot, use with caution," and he means it.
Can I mix flavors in one box?
Yes. That is the whole point of Build Your Hut Box: pick 3, 4 or 6 bags from the full catalog, mix exotics and beef however you like, and the box price is lower per bag than buying singles. A 3-pack is $70.
Do you sell wholesale?
Not at the moment. Jerky Hut NY sells direct: online here, on eBay, and in person at events.
Do you have an eBay store?
Yes: 1,000+ orders with 100% positive feedback. TO CONFIRM WITH JOSEPH: the eBay store link to publish here.
